Weekly Blog 11/26

Dear Wines Families,
While this is a short week, there is some important information to share including this month’s PTO Wines Times Newsletter.

Wines Times
Below is a link to the monthly PTO Wines Times newsletter. Please have a read!

Book Fair
The Wines Scholastic Book Fair is starting as soon as we return from Thanksgiving break!! The book fair is one of the year’s biggest fund raisers and provides a fabulous resource for the students, teachers, and our school library. It’s also a great way to get some holiday shopping and stocking stuffers checked off your list!

When can I shop? The fair will be open for sales starting on Tuesday evening for our Family Night from 6:30-8:00. On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday parents and family are welcome to come and shop the fair with (or without) their child during the lunch hour. Also, every classroom will have a designated shopping window. Please, all students MUST be accompanied by an adult for any shopping that takes place outside of their designated class shopping time. No exceptions.

What if I can’t make it to the fair? If you can’t make it to our book fair in person, please consider shopping our online sale, found on our Scholastic Book Fair website (link below). Wines will still directly benefit from these sales beginning tomorrow (Wednesday 11/27) running through Tuesday 12/10. Books ordered through our online fair will be delivered before we leave for winter break.

How else can I help? We rely on parent volunteers to make our events at Wines Elementary run smoothly, and the book fair is no exception! Please consider signing up for a volunteer slot, we especially need volunteers for family night on Tuesday December 3rd and packing up the fair on Friday December 6th. Here is a link to the sign up genius: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0B4FAAA62EA4F49-2019. Thank you!

Here is the link to our fair website for information on eWallet, our online sale, and more: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/wineselementaryschool! Please note: If you are using eWallet, please don’t make specific book requirements on the notes as we are never sure what our stock will look like at the time your child shops.

Email Stacy Guldal (stacyguldal@gmail.com) with any questions.

Visitor Management System Implementation
Beginning next Monday, we will be implementing our new visitor management system that will require visitors to present their drivers’ license or state identification in the main office. As many of you recall, we piloted this system last winter as our district was in the process of selecting a vendor. This system adds another layer of security in our school. It also adds another layer to our front office staff’s responsibilities so we ask for your patience and understanding.

Spirit Wear
Spirit Wear is now on sale online. Sales will take place until Dec. 4th. Please go to the link below to order.

Report Cards
Report cards are being sent home today with students. We hope you find the information helpful. Please return the envelope so we can use them again in March.

Have a great Thanksgiving!

David

Weekly Blog 11/20

Dear Wines Families, here is the news for the week:

Book Fair December 3rd-6th
The Wines Scholastic Book Fair is coming December 3rd - December 6th, just in time for holiday shopping! The book fair is one of the year’s biggest fundraisers and provides a fabulous resource for the students, teachers, and our classroom and school libraries! As always, we rely heavily on our parent volunteers for a successful fair. Please sign up for a shift or two here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0B4FAAA62EA4F49-2019

We are partnering with Scholastic this year for their All for Books program as well as their new shopping option, eWallet. Here is a link to our fair website more information on this new program and more: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/wineselementaryschool! Please keep an eye out for information on these great programs coming home in your child’s Wednesday folder! (Please note: If you are using eWallet, please don’t make specific book requirements on the notes as we are never sure what our stock will look like at the time your child shops.)

Don’t forget to mark your calendars - Tuesday December 3rd 6:30-8:00pm - to attend our family shopping night here at Wines, your first chance to shop the fair!

Email Stacy Guldal (stacyguldal@gmail.com) with any questions.

Late Arrivals
While the weather did throw us all for a bit of a loop last week, I have noticed that we have more and more late arriving students over the past couple of weeks. As a reminder, the first bell rings at 8:53. If you drop your students off in the morning, please do all you can to get your students to school in order to be in line at that time.

Parking Lot Safety: Crosswalk
Our parking lot is a busy place. Therefore, we have an established rule that students are not allowed to be in the crosswalk without an adult. In addition, if you are crossing the lot in front of the school, please ONLY cross at the crosswalk. Crossing in other areas is quite dangerous and also disrupts our traffic flow.

Lunch Volunteer Sign Up
If you are interested in volunteering at lunch recess, there is a volunteer link below. Also, we are always looking for permanent lunch hour employees (if you are going to volunteer, why not get paid!!). The job is very flexible and most of our paid lunch supervisors work partial weeks.

Thanksgiving Week
There is no school next Wednesday-Friday. Report cards will go home with students on Tuesday.

Thanks!
David

Weekly Blog 11/13

Dear Wines Families,
Well that was certainly an unexpected early winter blast. Thank you to everyone for your patience on Monday as we navigated the unexpected amount of snow we received and had late busses and other end of day challenges. With yesterday’s snow day, there are some changes to schedules. That information is below.

Picture Re-Takes Monday, Nov. 18th
Our Picture Re-Take day has been rescheduled to Monday, Nov. 18th. Again, if your child had their picture taken but wants a re-take, please send the original package to school. If your child was absent, they will have their picture taken. An order form was sent home last week. You can also order online at www.inter-state.com/order. Our unique school code is 43846RA.

Science Olympiad Meeting
The WESO parent meeting has beeb rescheduled for Monday, Nov. 18th at 7:00 PM in the cafeteria.

Science and Builders Fair Thanks!
Another great Science and Builders Fair is in the books. Thank you to the 58 students and families that participated and those that attended to see what the excitement is all about. Click on the link below to see photos from the event!

Special Thanks to AAPS teachers: Ms. Schemanske, Mr. Campbell and Mr. Centivany for adding the thrill of PLTW displays and an army of young volunteers. We are truly fortunate to have your support!

The youth volunteers and parent volunteers were instrumental in visiting all projects and providing feedback. Please reinforce heartfelt Wines gratitude the next time you see these individuals.

Finally, I want to extend a HUGE thank you to Bryan and Ruthie Kowalk who have organized the Science and Builders Fair since 2015. Putting on an event like this that is accessible to every interested student from Young 5’s through 5th grade is no easy task and we could not do it without their enthusiasm and organization. THANK YOU! As the Kowalks “graduate” from Wines this year, the Hinesman and Campbell families have come forward to ensure that the Wines Science and Builders Fair will continue long into the future!

Winter is Here…
As we all now know all too well, winter has arrived already. I want to remind everyone that with winter here, kids need to come to school prepared to go outside daily. Most students will go outside at least twice a day as long as the wind chill is above 0 degrees. Hats, gloves, and boots are necessities daily. Snow pants are a great idea as well.

That’s all for this week. Stay warm and Go Blue!
