Wines Update 8/18

 Dear Wines Families,

I hope this message finds you healthy and well. I understand that there are many questions and concerns as we forge our way into a new school year unlike any other we’ve experienced. I know that information may seem like it is coming slowly and I apologize. We are working extremely hard to hammer out all of the details but this is a work in progress and so information may seem slow and may change from time to time. Below are a few updates for this week. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.

Enrollment

Thank you to everyone who filled out the course election survey. We have a VERY high response rate and this is most helpful as we organize our fall. If you have not filled out the survey, we are now able to make your selection here locally. Please email me AND Robin Moore (moorero@aaps.k12.mi.us) with your selection if you have not made one. On Friday of this week, all students who have not made a selection will be placed in the “Classroom Connect” option.

Technology

We are pleased to announce that all AAPS students will be receiving a brand new device for online work this fall. All K-2 students will receive an iPad and grades 3-12 will receive a Chromebook. Even if your family has access to quality technology, we want every student to use the new devices as they are up to date with the latest items needed to be successful with our online platform this fall. Information will be forthcoming regarding distribution plans.

Classroom Placement

I have received a number of requests for students to be placed in the same classroom with friends and neighbors in order to support online learning. While I certainly understand this desire, I simply cannot accommodate these requests. The reasons for this range from simple logistics and scheduling to very real issues of equity. Please note that grade level teachers will be working closely together in order to provide lessons on a daily basis that are in unison. Therefore, students will have consistent content and assignments across grade level classrooms. Thus, even students at the same grade level who do not share a teacher will be able to be supported together. Thank you for your understanding.

Enrollment Paperwork

If you are new to Wines or have updated residency paperwork, please hang tight! We are awaiting plans for our office to open in order to be able to accept paperwork.

School Timeline

As has been outlined by AAPS communications, the week of Aug. 31st will be our “onboarding” week where we will help get students and families situated for the school year. There will likely be a virtual “meet and greet” with teachers that week as well. More information on plans will be coming soon. The first regular school day will be Sept. 8th. The first week of school will be shorter days as we transition to full school days the following week.
