Weekly Blog 4/25

Dear Wines Families,
I have a number of items today.

Parent Input for Class Placement
Below is a link to a brief survey for families who wish to provide input for us as we make class placement decisions. As always, please note that we do not accept requests for a particular teacher nor do we accept requests for a student to not have a particular teacher. The input form simply allows families the opportunity to provide information that you feel will be helpful as we make placement decisions. Below is the link. If you wish to participate, please complete the form by Wednesday, May 9th.

 Important Millage Vote: May 8
The Ann Arbor Public Schools Operating Millage is on the ballot on May 8th. The proposal is to restore, replace, and extend the authority of AAPS to levy mills for operating purposes. For AAPS homeowners, the millage will not increase tax rates over the current authorization. Please click on the link below for a video message regarding the proposal. The second link is to a FAQ regarding the millage vote.

Art Night May 17: We Need You
We need just a few volunteers to make Art Night a success! Specifically, we need a couple of people to help hang student artwork on Tuesday, May 15th from 2-4ish, and we need some adult presence in the cafeteria to arrange the cookies and quickly clean up at the end of the evening. Easy stuff!

This is a stress-free volunteer opportunity that supports art in our school. Our Art Night organizer, Peg Knight, is “graduating” to middle school next year so we would also love for someone to take over Art Night for the 2018-2019 school year. If you are interested, please let Mr. Wyse know.

Below is the Sign Up Genius link for volunteers.

Robotics Team Success!
On Friday, March 13 the first ever Elementary Robotics competition took place at Forsythe Middle School. Our PLTW teacher, Sarah Schemankse, led a group of 28 4th and 5th graders on eight different Robotics teams. I had the pleasure of attending the event and I was extremely impressed with our kids and the event itself. The Wines Firewolves took 2nd place in the event. Big thanks to Sarah for starting this team and helping create what I’m sure will be a new tradition in AAPS.

Let’s Dance needs 1 More Student!
"Let's Dance" class offered at Wines this spring is in need of at least 1 more student to make it a go. This class is scheduled to start May 3rd. See the information about the class below.

Thanks!

Weekly Blog 4/18

Dear Wines Families,

Just a couple of items this week.

Auction Thanks!!!
Our auction last Saturday evening was a great time and a tremendous success. I want to thank everyone who was able to attend the event and I want to thank everyone who volunteered their time that evening. I want to give special thanks to Tracie Clarke, Amy Holland, and Shannon Stewart for working all year to make the event such a success. We also want to thank Jon and Frances Carlson for allowing us to use the fantastic space at Null!

Art Night is May 17!
We hope to see you at our annual Art Night on May 17

Please Use the Crosswalk
As we all know, we have lots of traffic before and after school. I want to ask that everyone who parks and walks their children in or out of the front of the building to please utilize the crosswalk at the front of the building. A number of parents cross close to their car rather than the walk and this not only has a disruptive effect on the flow of the line, it creates an extremely dangerous situation. Also, just a reminder that students are NEVER allowed to use the crosswalk unaccompanied by an adult. Thank you!

Class Placement 2018/19
Please look for our annual parent input form for class placement in next week’s weekly message. Believe it or not, we are making plans for next September!! In the form, you can let us know if your child is not returning to Wines. If you know your child is not returning, please feel free to email Robin Moore now at moorero@aaps.k12.mi.us.

Weekly Blog 4/4

Dear Wines Families,
I hope everyone had a nice spring break last week. Our family was able to get to warmer weather and now find ourselves back in winter…
Here is the news for the week.

Wines Auction: Next Saturday April 14!!
The Wines “off site” auction takes places next Saturday, April 14th at Null Tap House in Dexter. This is wonderful adult Wines event and I hope you can join us for an evening of fun and support for our school. Tickets are on sale now online at:

As with all Wines events—on site or off site—we need volunteers to make the night a success. Below is a link to sign up to help at the Auction. We need you!!

Reminder: New Security Measures Begin Thursday
As I outlined earlier this week, beginning tomorrow, our doors will be locked at all times. Our childcare staff will respond to the bell from 7:00 AM until approximately 8:45 when our office staff takes over and the childcare staff will again respond beginning at approximately 4:30. While this is an important step for safety, it will take some getting used to before and after school. Please be patient with as we get accustomed to the new system.

Climate survey
Yesterday you should have received an email from Dr. Swift asking families to fill out the annual climate survey. I encourage you to take a few minutes to fill this out as it provides us great information on the things we are doing well and our areas for continued growth.

Robotics Competition
AAPS Elementary students are rising to the occasion to compete in an Elementary District Wide Robotics Competition. Students will be using the VEX IQ kits to compete in moving blocks to designated areas and create stacks of blocks to multiply their scores.  Students from Abbot Elementary, Lakewood Elementary, A2 STEAM and Wines Elementary will compete on Friday, April 13th at Forsythe Middle School.  The competition will begin at 5:30 pm.  Please come out and join us for the district wide competition and support your Wines Wildcats!
