Weekly Blog 3/20

Dear Wines Families,

It’s hard to believe that spring break is upon us and it is nearly April. Soon, winter will be just a distant memory. Speaking of winter, I want to thank a couple of fantastic Wines volunteers for helping make two of our annual winter traditions huge successes. I want to thank Michelle Sigakis for organizing the Wines Wahoo a couple weeks ago. This is no small event and it was a great night for our kids!

I also want to thank Michael Newberry who took over organization of our lunchtime extra specials this year. While we had some weather cancellations that we can’t control, the six weeks of Extra Specials allowed hundreds of kids to try new things or simply do something different at lunch recess. Big thanks also to the many parent volunteers who ran the special events.

Lost and Found
Our lost and found will be emptied and items given to charity on Friday, April 5th. This is the Friday we return from break.

Disability Awareness Workshop - Call for Volunteers!
Another wonderful event and fantastic organizer needs your help! Our annual Disability Awareness Workshop will be on Wednesday, April 17. We're in need of parent volunteers to help out with this wonderful event for our 4th grade students. You do not have to be a parent of a 4th grader to volunteer!

Student Artwork for the Next Wines Times
We need to spruce up the masthead of the WINES TIMES and are asking students to consider submitting original art incorporating the words WINES TIMES into their piece to use as the frontpage header of the PTO newsletter. It would be best to keep the design 4-5 inches wide and 3 inches in height. The chosen piece will be randomly selected from all submissions. One submission per student, please and include your name and grade. Art can be placed in the PTO mailbox in the office or emailed to newsletter@winespto.org.

Wines Mural Project
In partnership with Tree Town Murals, we are excited to announce that beginning after spring break, we will begin work on five permanent murals on the walls of our school. Two each in the lower and upper el hallways and one in the modular. Every Wines student will be part of the production. We could use your help! Students from each class will work in small groups on the project. Parent volunteers can really help with the flow of the projects as the schedule is tight. In today's email I sent a document with the times when classes are painting. Some classes stretch over more than one day due to classroom schedules and/or the schedule of our Tree Town partners. If you can help out, please let the teachers know. The project is supported by our wonderful PTO from resources from our Run-a-Thon as well as our upcoming Auction.

Wines Auction
Speaking of the Auction, please save the date for Saturday, April 27th for our annual “off-site” adult Auction (silent and live). The event takes place at the Jolly Pumpkin in Dexter (formerly Null. Same place as in previous years, new name). We hope to see you there. Look for more information after spring break including ticket sales.
