Weekly Blog 5/1

Dear Wines Families,

May is here. Hopefully the May flowers will emerge from the mud and puddles…
We have a number of items this week:

Auction Thanks!
The Wines Auction last Saturday night was fantastic! Thank you to everyone who was able to attend. It was nice to mingle with folks away from the school environment. BIG thanks to Michelle Chien, Tracie Clarke, and Amy Holland for their year-long effort to organize this great event. Thanks to Jon and Fran Carlson for allowing us to use the fantastic Jolly Pumpkin space in Dexter. Thanks to the many volunteers who helped set up, clean up, help with check out, etc. We couldn’t have done it without you! Below is a note from Michelle, Tracie, and Amy with more thanks and recognitions.

HERE is a link to some pictures from the evening.

Teacher Appreciation Week May 6-10
Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week. Our wonderful PTO has a great week planned for our amazing staff. Please see the flyer below with the daily events and how the kids can be involved. Tuesday and Wednesday are days when student participation is crucial.

Lunches with Love Success!
If you didn’t see my social media post yesterday, I want to again acknowledge our kids and community for another successful community service project. Our annual Lunches with Love project for Food Gatherers was great. We packed 420 lunches, donated 423 pounds of food, and raised $1,489.36 through our coin drive. Special thanks to Stacy Colias and Megan Hastie for spearheading this wonderful project and to the many parent volunteers who helped pack lunches last week.

Final Floor Hockey Game THIS FRIDAY
This Friday will be our final floor hockey game of the season. If your child hasn’t played, perhaps Friday they can come to see if this is something they’d be interested in next year. Big thanks to Kyle Turner for organizing the games each week and to Andreas Sidiropoulos who has also been a huge help.

Parent Input for Class Placement
Below is the link again for parent input for class placement. The link will be live until next Friday, May 10.

That’s all for this week. Stay dry!

Weekly Blog 4/24

Dear Wines Families,
I have just a couple of messages today, but they are important. Before I do, I want to send out a huge thank you to Jessi Averill for organizing our annual Disability Awareness Workshop last week. This is a large task and Jessi handled EVERYTHING! Big thanks also to the many volunteers who participated last week. Ok, on to this week’s items:

Last Call: Wines Auction Saturday Night
Thanks to everyone who has purchased a ticket to our Auction Saturday night. If you haven’t please do so by Friday for the discounted rate. It is shaping up to be a great evening! Below is a link to purchase your tickets. Please try to add the names of your guests in the notes section and your child’s teacher (if you’ve already purchased tickets, don’t worry if you didn’t include this information).

We’ve had a few inquiries about adding last minute items to the silent auction. Yes! We will take last minute items. If you have something, please contact Amy Holland at amytholland@live.com.

Parent Input for Class Placement
Below is a link for families to fill out if you would like to provide input as we begin to make class placement decisions for next year. As always, we do not accept requests for certain teachers or requests to not have your child assigned to a particular teacher. However, your input is valued as we make our lists. Below is a link to the form. We ask that you provide input by next Friday, May 3rd.

Weekly Blog 4/17

Dear Wines Families,
As is usual this time of year, we have lots of news to share.

Wines Auction April 27th
We are just over a week away from our annual Wines auction at the Jolly Pumpkin Artesian Ales and Kitchen in Dexter (formerly Null Tap House). The event is next Saturday evening and tickets are on sale now. Please go to https://squareup.com/market/wines-elementary-school-pto to purchase your tickets. The classroom projects that are auctioned off during the live auction are complete. In today's email find a link to see all of these fantastic projects. The live auction, in my opinion, is the highlight of the night! We hope to see you there next Saturday.

Lunches with Love Next Week
Our students will be taking part in Lunches with Love, our annual community service project to support Food Gatherers, next week. Look for information in your child’s Wednesday Folder tonight. As part of the project, kids will be packing lunches next week. We can always use volunteers. In today's email I sent a link to the schedule of when classes are packing. Feel free to join us!

Interested in Helping at Lunch?
We are always hiring lunch supervisors at Wines. If you or someone you know is interested in a flexible mid-day job that includes working in our cafeteria and outside at lunch recess, we are hiring! Interested candidates can contact me directly and I will put them in touch with Human Resources. If you are not interested in the paid position but would like to volunteer, please let me know of your available days and I will pass this information on to our noon hour coordinator.

Parking Lot
It’s never too late for some friendly reminders about our parking lot. Please make sure you are pulling up as far as you can before letting your child out of the car in the morning. In addition, the process of drop off needs to be safe and efficient. Parents should not need to get out of the car to help kids out or give one last hug goodbye. You are always welcome to park and walk your child to the building to do this. At pick up time, please also pull all the way up and wait for your child to come to you. Do not get out of your car. Kids are not allowed to head up the sidewalk toward the baseball diamond to find cars and need to be picked up in front of the building. Finally, just a reminder that our crosswalk can be a very unsafe place and students are NEVER allowed to cross without an adult. If you are escorting your child across the lot, please utilize the crosswalk and don’t cross in other areas.

That’s all for this week!
