Weekly Blog 2/28

Dear Wines Families,
Just a reminder that we dismiss at 1:29 this afternoon. There is one more Early Release this year on May 23rd.

March is Reading Month is Here!
While every month is reading month, we celebrate the joy of reading each March. We are not counting minutes this year, but rather encouraging every student to read nightly and turn in their March is Reading Month reading log each week. The first log is going home today in the Wednesday Folder and they should be returned each Thursday.

Weekly Blog 2/7: Snow Day Edition

Dear Wines Families,
Well, today was a bit of an unexpected snow day. Here is the news for the week.

Wines Times
The January Wines Times newsletter is ready. Below is a link. Please take some time to read through all the important information from our PTO.

Reminder: RSVP for Parent Involvement Day
Thank you to everyone who has RSVP’d for Parent Involvement Day on Monday, Feb. 12th. If you are planning on coming, please fill out the RSVP at the link below. It is especially important to RSVP if you are staying for lunch so we can be sure to order enough food!

Flu Update and Precautions
As many of you know all too well, the flu has hit Washtenaw County and has made its way into Wines. Below is a link to information from our school district regarding the flu.

Please help us prevent the spread of flu by following the suggestions at the link. In addition, if your child is going to be home sick and you are leaving a message with us on our voicemail, please indicate the symptoms your child has and if your child has been officially diagnosed with the flu, please let us know that information. Also, while children’s Motrin is certainly a game changer for busy parents, please don’t “cover” your child’s fever with medication in the morning. Motrin wears off after a few hours and our office is often full of sick students at about 1:00 each day. These students not only feel horrible, they are potentially spreading the flu.

Wines Wahoo: March 2nd
The annual Wines Wahoo is scheduled for March 2nd at Forsythe Middle School. This Wines tradition needs volunteers to make it another fantastic event. Please click on the link below to volunteer.

4th Grade Disability Awareness Workshop
Our annual 4th grade Disability Awareness Workshop takes place March 21st. We need volunteers for this important event as well. You don’t have to be a 4th grade parent to volunteer! Below is the link. There is more information about this event in today’s Wines Times newsletter.

Wines Auction and Raffle: Looking for New Leadership
The Wines Auction are looking for one or two people to help run the Wine Pull.  This includes collecting the wine, and gift wrapping the wine.  Shannon Stewart is in her last year as a Wines parent and has offered to run it this year but needs some help and it's the perfect time for people to shadow her and learn how to do it.  It is fun and easy!

Also next year will be Tracie Clark’s last year as organizer of the Auction. This is another opportunity for someone to shadow her to learn the ropes and take over. This is a well-oiled machine and just needs someone step in and take over the oiling!  If you are interested in either of these roles then please email Tracie at: traciemcginty@hotmail.com

With this in mind, the head of the Raffle committee, Kerianne Tupac, is also approaching her last year next year and is looking for a person to step into her role.  Again perfect time to start shadowing her to learn the ropes! Please email kmtupac@umich.edu.

Wines A2 Allergy Parents Group
Does your Wines student have food allergies? If you are an allergy parent, please consider joining the Wines A2 Allergy Parents Group on Facebook:

Screenagers: Growing up in the Digital Age
You are all invited to a screening of the award-winning documentary, "Screenagers: Growing up in the Digital Age" on Thursday, Feb 1 at 6:30pm in the Forsythe Auditorium. The film will be followed by a discussion led by school counselors. Parents are HIGHLY encouraged to bring their middle school and high school children.

Through poignant and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, Screenagers reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance. To see a 2-minute movie trailer go to the movie website at: www.screenagersmovie.com

If you are unable to attend Forsythe's viewing date, an additional screening is available at Skyline High School, March 6 at 6:30pm.

That’s all for this week!
